Takayu Hot-Spring Resort

Long ago, Takayu Hot-Spring Resort was known as “Shinobu Takayu,” and together with Zao Takayu and Shirabu Takayu prospered as one of three takayu (hot spring resorts at high elevations) in the northern Ou region. Takayu Hot-Spring Resort is a well-known hot spring with cloudy water. Due to the high healing properties of the water, the hot spring has the nickname of “Kusatsu in Tohoku” (Kusatsu is a famous healing hot spring area), and features a plentiful supply of hot water. It is located at the Fukushima City side entrance of Bandai-Azuma Skyline toll road. In the Takayu district, there are 10 natural hot spring sources, with names such as “Takinoyu,” “Netsuyu,” and “Senkinoyu.” These sources are named after old public baths. In the old days, bathtubs were built right next to or directly above the source. Today, the bathing facilities still receive their water flowing directly from the hot spring source.
